Daily Tape Analysis — 2026-10-26
The Story
Market bounced: SPY +0.67% to $765.23, QQQ +0.99% to $712.42, IWM +0.34% to $276.78. Yesterday's bullish conviction bets mostly paid — 7 of 10, led by TSLA +5.23% — while yesterday's bearish bets failed (3 of 10 right). Today's biggest directional bets split: $27.2M in TSLA puts at 538x V/OI versus $58.4M in MSFT calls at 102x. Index flows stay defensive (SPY PCR_v 2.24, $70.3M unusual puts; QQQ $58.1M), but single-stock flow leans long the AI/semis bounce. The one big shift is TSLA: up 5.23% to $391.69 while someone paid $27.2M for near-dated puts, and the call side carries TRO confirmation.
Bearish Bets to Watch
TSLA (score 49) — $27.2M puts across 52 contracts, 4-strike cluster, 538x max V/OI. Key: 392 put Nov 6 (202x, $2.30M) and 395 put Nov 6 (4.5x, $3.82M), both at/near spot $391.69. No TRO confirmation on the puts; spot closed +5.23% and the $27.0M bullish call book carries TRO ✅.
AAPL (score 49) — $4.4M puts, 3-strike cluster, D/W/M all ▲. Key: 350 put Nov 4 (25.7x, $0.85M) and 352 put Nov 6 (23.6x), just below spot $343.93. Spot fell -1.08% and yesterday's AAPL bearish bet validated ✅.
MSFT (score 49) — $1.8M puts on 5 strikes, 62x max. Setup is a fade of the +1.56% pop; the only upside tail is the 570 put Nov 13 (14x). Reads as a hedge, not direction: the bullish book is $58.4M calls at 102x against it.
WMT (score 47) — $0.6M puts, 961x V/OI on 3 strikes. Key: 118 put Dec 4 ($0.32M, 961x), a single-print bet against the +8.73% 69-day run. No TRO confirmation; spot +0.35% today.
IWM (score 43) — $9.4M puts, 2-strike cluster, TRO ✅. Key: 310 put Dec 18 ($7.35M) is the largest single print, 12% OTM. Spot +0.34%; this is a longer-dated hedge rather than an immediate directional call.
Bullish Bets to Watch
MSFT (score 79) — $58.4M calls at 102x, top conviction. Key: 585 call Jan 15 2027 ($51.7M, 27.1x, 9.9% OTM), one long-dated upside position. Spot +1.56% to $532.54, and yesterday's MSFT call bet validated ✅.
IWM (score 59) — $7.8M calls, 6-strike cluster, 301x max V/OI. Bullish calls sit against the $9.4M Dec put hedge. Spot +0.34%; yesterday's call bet was flat.
AVGO (score 57) — $13.1M calls on 3 strikes, 242x max. Key: 355 call Nov 20 (36.9x, $5.29M, 7.3% OTM); 5 contracts above 20x V/OI. Spot +2.83% to $330.84, recovering off the 69-day low.
SPY (score 56) — $40.2M calls across 16 strikes, 239x max. Key: 763 and 767 Dec 18 calls ($6.44M, $5.84M) pin the recovery range. Bullish strikes outnumber puts 16 to 6, though $70.3M in unusual puts remains.
ORCL (score 50) — $4.3M calls, 110x max. Key: 129 call Nov 20 (20.1x, $1.44M) and 126 call Nov 20 (13.2x, $0.98M). Spot flat (-0.09%); D/W/M all ▼, so this is an unconfirmed rebound bet.
The Oracle Read
The bounce has follow-through support — yesterday's bullish conviction calls paid 7 of 10, and today's biggest single-stock position is $58.4M in MSFT calls against only $1.8M in puts. Index protection stays heavy ($70.3M SPY, $58.1M QQQ in unusual puts), so the hedge is being held into the rally. Strongest setups: MSFT long (score 79, validated), AVGO rebound calls, and the TSLA put/call collision at 392–395 — puts fading a 5% pop while the call side has TRO confirmation.
Names to Watch at the Open
- TSLA — fade at 392/395 (Nov 6 puts $2.30M + $3.82M); bullish side TRO ✅ after +5.23%.
- MSFT — long bias; 585 Jan 2027 call anchor ($51.7M), put book only $1.8M.
- SPY — 760 Nov 6 put ($18.0M) versus 763/767 Dec calls; 760 is the line.
- AVGO — calls into 355 Nov 20 ($5.29M); needs to clear 355.
- WMT — 118 Dec 4 put (961x) is a single-print downside bet; 118 is support.

Total unusual put notional: $111.2M across 10 sectors. Sectors with 🔴 Defensive signal have BOTH high PCR (>1.2) AND >$2M of unusual put buying — institutions are actively hedging there. 🟢 Risk-On means call-heavy with no defensive flow — the safest put-selling ground.
How to read the Sector Tape
The sector tape aggregates the daily option chain by GICS sector. For each sector it computes the put/call ratio (PCR) and the total notional of unusual put prints (contracts where today's volume exceeds existing open interest by 50%+). The signal tells you where institutions are positioning defensively vs. where they're comfortable being long.
- PCR (put/call ratio) — put volume ÷ call volume (or OI). Above 1.0 = puts trade more than calls (defensive). Below 0.8 = call-heavy (risk-on). The OI version is more stable; the volume version is more reactive to today's flow.
- UnusualPut$ — total notional ($ = volume × mid × 100) of put contracts where volume > 1.5× open interest AND notional > $50K. This is the UnusualWhales signal: new positions opening rather than existing ones trading hands. Large values = someone is paying up for protection.
- Signal — derived from PCR + unusual notional. 🔴 Defensive (PCR > 1.2 AND > $2M unusual) = heavy hedging — be cautious selling puts there. 🟡 Caution = some defensive flow. 🟢 Risk-On (PCR < 0.9, < $500K unusual) = calmest put-selling ground. ⚪ Neutral = mixed.
How to use it with ChainScan
The sector tape is the weather report above the single-name scanner. A bull-put-spread TAKE verdict on a name in a 🟢 Risk-On sector is high confidence — the tape confirms nobody's hedging there. A TAKE verdict on a name in a 🔴 Defensive sector should be downgraded: institutions are actively buying puts at the strikes you'd be selling, so either skip the trade, go further OTM (0.15 delta instead of 0.20), or shorten DTE to get ahead of the hedging flow. The ETF block (SPY/QQQ/IWM) gives the macro read — if QQQ is 🔴 Defensive, every tech name on the ChainScan table carries extra risk.
The top-prints table
Shows the 15 largest unusual put prints across all sectors, sorted by notional. This is where you see the actual whale activity: which symbol, which strike, which expiration, and how much money is behind it. A single $50M put print could be one institution hedging a long book (not necessarily bearish) or a fresh directional bet. When you see clusters across multiple strikes and names in the same sector, the institutional interpretation gets stronger.
🎯 Smart Money — directional-bet detection (both sides)
Two tables surface institutional directional bets. 🐻 Bearish bets (unusual put activity): names where put buying looks like a coordinated bear bet. 🐂 Bullish bets (unusual call activity): names where call buying looks like a coordinated bull bet. The conviction score separates directional bets from dispersed hedging using three features: (1) V/OI breadth — fraction of notional in contracts with V/OI > 20×, discounted by sample size; (2) strike concentration — fraction of notional in the dominant strike cluster (within 2% of spot); (3) notional scale — saturates at $5M. Score ≥70 = strong directional bet, ≥50 = moderate, ≥30 = some clustering.
The TRO columns (D/W/M) show the trend on daily/weekly/monthly timeframes. ✅ TRO Confirmed: for bearish bets, daily AND weekly both ▼ (downtrend); for bullish bets, daily AND weekly both ▲ (uptrend). The highest-conviction signals are bets in the direction TRO already confirms. A high score with TRO NOT confirmed means the option market may be ahead of the trend indicator — an early warning.
Example (bearish): LLY on 2026-07-29 had $27.7M unusual puts, V/OI up to 284×, concentrated in 5 strikes within $20 of spot, placed at the top of a 5-day rally. TRO daily red since July 15. LLY fell 4% the next day. Example (bullish): AMD on 2026-07-29 had $28M unusual calls at the bottom of a 22% crash week ($543→$425). The calls were concentrated in Aug 7 expiry (through earnings Aug 4). AMD bounced +15% the next day on a Microsoft-led chip rebound and a $14B Core Scientific deal. Both sides of the tape are predictive.
Caveat: open interest lags one day (reported from the previous close). Volume can be driven by a single large order as easily as by distributed flow. Hedging is not the same as bearish — a put buyer may be insuring a long position, not speculating. Use the tape as a confirming colour on top of technical analysis, not as a standalone forecast.
